Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
